Sedation Dentistry in Victoria BC
Saanich Dental Group offers sedation dentistry for patients who may be anxious, have a dental phobia or who require multiple surgeries in a single appointment. We have a number of sedation methods depending on your needs:
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation alleviates the patient’s anxieties and puts them in a relaxed state during their procedure. The patient ingests an oral sedative approximately an hour before their scheduled appointment. By the time their procedure begins, all of the patient’s worries will be gone. The dentist may give the patient nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to ensure they are completely comfortable.
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide puts the patient in a euphoric state. Nitrous oxide is given to the patient via the nose and once inhaled, makes the patient completely comfortable. Pain, discomfort and anxiety are essentially reduced. The amount of nitrous oxide given can be safely controlled and monitored by the dentist during the procedure.
IV Conscious Sedation
Compared to the other sedation methods, IV conscious sedation is administered via IV so the sedation effects are felt quickly. IV conscious sedation puts the patient in a groggy state and completely relaxes their body. Pain and discomfort are drastically reduced. The patient is still conscious so they can respond to verbal cues from the dentist; however, they may not remember parts of the procedure.
Depending on your case, we’ll create a customized treatment plan for your dental needs. Contact Saanich Dental Group in Victoria BC today to set up a consultation.
